MK1 Robots in production at Amutec's Mablethorpe factory. This is a rare early photo (around 1986/7) of the factory interior. Photo courtesy of Nigel Collins!
Manufactured by Amutec, the robot was one of their earliest rides, released around 1986.

Two different versions were produced. The MK1 robot had a single side entry and a perspex dome with a LED brain inside. This model proved very expensive to produce, leading to the creation of MK2 which was cheaper and more practical to make.
MK2 Robot, Hastings, August 1998. Another ride that used to absolutely terrify me as a child (although I did pluck up courage to ride after this photo was taken!) It almost makes you wonder why I take such a great interest in these machines as an adult!
Mike Collins then struck a deal with Jean Corzani of Elektro-Mobiltechnik to produce a large number of fibreglass robot shells which EMT then fitted out and sold as their own in Germany. Hundreds of robots and beach bikes were manufactured this way, playing a big role in helping Amutec to fund the development of their production capability.

The robot was most commonly sold in white, but some red and black robots were also made.

Amutec also made a MK3 robot in the 2000s. This ride had an entirely different mould to MK1 and MK2 so will be found on its own designated page.
