Elektro-Mobiltechnik

Elektro-Mobiltechnik was founded in Dierdorf, West Germany in 1970.  They became very successful after just a few months, producing electrically and battery-operated mini cars, motorcycles, coin operated carousels, kiddie rides and boats. They also made pedal cars, suitable for one or several people which were very popular on continental seaside promenades. As of November 1970, they had just opened a new factory and were the biggest firm in West Germany, producing 40 to 50 kiddie rides per day.  Many of these were obviously being exported, and EMT already had distributors in France, Greece, Spain and Israel.

EMT credited much of their early success to Jean Corzani, who was in charge of production and marketing and had previous experience with a similar company.  Their business model was very different to the early days of kiddie rides with the machines being mass produced and sold at an incredible rate.  They had plans to open 64 branches in West Germany for sales and servicing by making contracts with existing firms or individuals who would then be authorised to use the Elektro-Mobiltechnik name.  Their main problem was a lack of staff as they only had 60 employees, most of them locals who were formerly farmers and had little incentive, according to Corzani.  They were making arrangements to employ Italians who they believed could increase their productivity further still.

The latest novelty was a battery operated racing car for automobile clubs, the idea being to have a small race track for children to learn the basic rules of the road while the adults had lessons in real cars.  Corzani was especially proud of the battery charger for these, which was shaped like a petrol pump.
