Originally released by RG Mitchell as the "Space Scoota" in the early 1980s, this ride was a sit-on rocket with sharp, straight edges, a high back and a long nose. It came in a wide variety of different colours, all with a glittery finish, and a black seat, wheel and details along the sides.
Location unknown, April 1997
The ride was soon renamed as "Sky Rider" and, in 1985, the rocket underwent one of Mitchells' typical makeovers. The nose was altered to incorporate some small lights and now had a more rounded curve to the sides, and the steering wheel had been replaced by two handles. It still came in a range of glittery colours with black details. The Sky Rider had a push button on either side of the handles for explosion sound effects.
Clacton-on-Sea, August 1996
Sky Rider was a very popular ride at the time, and they were a common sight at both small shops and supermarkets alike.
