Following a two year period of producing rides exclusively for their own operations, RG Mitchell came back onto the sales scene with a bang in 1985. The star attraction of their range was the Space Walker, a rather unusual concept being in the shape of an astronaut. Or rather, an empty space suit in which the rider could sit and become the astronaut themselves.
Alas, the ride did not pass the test of time with many considering it to be unsafe. As far as I'm aware, all example of this ride which were owned and operated by RG Mitchell ended up being scrapped (their bases and mechanisms being re-used for the Astro Jet ride), leaving only those produced for outside sales.
Many thanks to Back in the Day 44!
While the example shown in the video above is obviously not in the best of conditions and is completely mute, the ride would have originally featured a soundtrack of space rockets being fired with a push button for a laser gun sound effect.
