Amutec's first ever ride created in 1985, the Custom Car started life as an electric children's car. Amutec purchased seven of these electric cars and converted them into coin operated rides.

These seven cars were all initially operated by Amutec, and not sold. The first production version of the Custom Car was a single seater and had a perspex screen and side screens unlike the later, more common two-seater ride.

The car remained a firm favourite in the Amutec range for many years, firstly as one of their "Dream Machines", before being renamed as "Turbo Car" in the 1990s when it joined the "Classic Kiddie Rides" range.
