Carousel

Artist's Impression, 1990s BAFCO Catalogue

Manufactured by BAFCO of Alford as part of their "Roundabouts" range, I believe this two-seater carousel was first sold in the late 1980s.  The carousel itself was coloured in iridescent red and blue while the horses were usually a mix of gold/silver or brown/grey.

At first glance, the actual horses appear to have been made from the same mould as BAFCO's single horse ride, Fair Lady.  However, upon closer inspection, you will notice that their front left legs are bent.  I daresay there are other differences too...I almost want to say that the carousel horses are slightly larger than Fair Lady but without having a tape measure and both horses to hand, I can only guess at their actual dimensions!

Of course, Fair Lady herself is strikingly similar to JM Kiddie Rides' horse ride, who in turn looks like a direct copy of RJ Newborough's Traditional Horse...who really WAS identical to BRH Fibreglass's Tich.  And even Tich had some obvious similarities to the equines on Edwin Hall's Twin Gallopers ride.  (Especially the saddle design which we see used all the way through to the horses on this carousel with the fleur-de-lis style symbols that Edwin Hall was so keen on using on his rides).

The carousel measured 50" x 57" and, as of the 2000 BAFCO price list, cost £3,295.00 to purchase.
