Walmatich was founded by Walter Romagnoli of Rimini in 1962 to manufacture basketball games. Ten years later, in 1972, they began making kiddie rides, which would eventually become the main focus of their business.
Walter tragically passed away in 1979 at which point his then 24-year-old son Umberto took over the company along with a staff of ten. Umberto already had prior experience of running the company temporarily while his father recovered in hospital following a severe road accident in 1974.
Under Umberto's leadership, the company continued to specialise in kiddie rides, 80% of them for export. Their most popular rides incorporated shooting games; the Hydraulic Red Baron, Far West Horse and Sandokan. They also made a Popeye strength tester machine.
In a 1979 interview, Umberto talked about their next project, a car kiddie ride which would be released later that year.
