US Distributor's Catalogue, Early 1980s
Manufactured by RJ Newborough, this roundabout was released in time for the Amusement Trades Exhibition in January 1975. The roundabout featured a selection of three animals (and occasionally cars) from Newborough's single ride range, with the most popular choices seeming to be the duck, elephant and squirrel, on a green and yellow base (with the initial "N" craftily woven into the footplates). Eagle eyed ride enthusiasts will recognise the animals as earlier BRH Fibreglass designs.
Bells Amusements, Ingoldmells, July 2014
Music (played via a cassette player fitted into the base) was originally an optional extra, but was included in the ride by default from 1976 onwards.
Fantasy Island, Weymouth, May 2019. This unit features Newborough's "Smiling Car" in place of the usual duck. It has obviously been completely repainted.
The ride was distributed in the USA by Thomas Leon's Rides of Rock Island, IL. Measurements on the Universal Visual Audiotronics Corporation flyer are given as 52" x 52".
